New Music From Dirty Three.

Melbourne's finest, Mick Turner (guitar), Warren Ellis (violin) and Jim White( drums) collectively know as Dirty Three will release their much anticipated new album on February 27th next.
'Towards The Low Sun' will be the title of this follow up to the last studio LP release called 'Cinder' from 2005. The wonderful Bella Union label has kindly made available this first taster from the new record as a free download called 'Rising Below'.
It is a delight for fans alike to see this trio creating new music again, considering how many other projects they all are involved in. Mick Turner is a renowned artist who incidentally has created all their album artwork since they began as a band. Jim White has worked with such artistes as Cat Power, Nina Nastasia and Nick Cave.
Warren Ellis is a full time member of The Bad Seeds and also Grinderman.
Living apart for much of their time in France, U.S.A and Australia respectively, something magic occurs when these 3 musicians link together to record and play live.
Their live shows are a spellbinding thrilling experience that will stay in your memory for a long time if you are ever lucky enough to catch them..Details of a return to Ireland this year will be announced as soon as news comes my way...

War Paint

One of the many bands I will be looking forward to seeing live at The Electric Picnic in a couple of weeks are L.A girl group War Paint. Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), and Stella Mozgawa (drums, keyboards) released their first album called 'The Fool' last October on  the Rough Trade label.  A previous EP called Exquisite Corpse was self released by the band in 2008 and got to a number 1 slot on the Amoeba Records local artists chart. This song 'Billie Holiday' was featured on the EP, performed here live last year in the U.S.
Their haunting vocals flow beautifully over intricate guitar lines, creating a mesmerising sound bordering between psychedelia and post-rock.

The Cocteau Twins, and Siouxsie and the Banshees have been  mentioned as notable influences to War Paint .Some of their songs would also sit comfortably with anything we have heard so far from the equally brilliant Bobby for instance.
This is one of  the standout songs called 'Bees' from the new album performed here at the John Peel stage at Glastonbury earlier this summer.
