Ian Curtis/Joy Division

Today, May 18 marks the 31st anniversary of the death of Ian Curtis, lead singer with Joy Division. It's difficult to describe what Joy Division's music means to me. I have always considered their contribution as enormous despite their short lived career. Surely one of the most important bands that England has ever produced, they could almost be categorized separately from any of  their predecessors. Their 3 studio albums 'Unknown Pleasures' 'Closer' and the posthumously released 'Still' are a testament to an extraordinary group brimming with creativity. Ian Curtis's gift as a songwriter was truely phenomemal, more amazing again he was just 23 years old when he took his own life.
Manchester and the world today is at a great loss without Ian, may his great work live on...
